Who is a baby play mat for?

Padded play mats are designed for babies from birth, making them one of the earliest and most consistently used items in a baby's space. In the first weeks, a cushioned mat gives babies a stable surface for supervised tummy time, which supports neck and upper-body development before rolling begins. As babies become more mobile through crawling and early floor play, the padding and grip of a mat provides a safer working surface than hard flooring alone.
